Martha Boxley- Photographer 

I have been looking at London based photographer Martha Boxleys photographs for about two days now. She's just wonderful. The kind of photography I am really enjoying at the moment. You can view her other stuff here.

These are a few of my personal favourites from her travels.

Im on holidays at the moment and finally have some spare time to tick off all those little projects I have been dying to do. Only, now that I have this time I feel lost and restless and don't know where to start. Go figure. I think maybe I need a few more early nights and cups of tea before I get stuck in. Or maybe i'm just a spoilt brat. 

Ghost Town 

It's a rare occasion that I will share my thoughts in a realm like blogger, or any real social media as I am pretty self conscious about image and not being perceived as this or that by people I don't personally know. People that are close to me will know that it has been a very long time since I have picked up a camera and taken photos, especially if they have known me for a while and known how much I really loved it. 

The past year or so I found that every time I would pick up a camera for the purpose of taking a set of photos, it was amateur hour, forced and not the kind of photos that I really wanted to be doing, which was partly my fault. I found that all I was really doing was taking glorified Facebook photos for people who wanted to look good on social media, and I was going nowhere. It put me off. 

In light of all this, I have put my expensive equipment away and found a passion for film again. Not in that wanky "I only use analogue because im sa indie man" but because of the skill and time it takes to get a actual good film shot. I have found that the photos that are catching my eye at the moment are the ones that are slightly...off. Not properly framed. Over exposed. Gritty. Confused. Not "pretty". In light of that, I took some photos on my Yashica that are exactly that. 

Lennox Heads (NSW) is a ghost town in winter. 

This song is amazing, and the film clip is even better. I have loved Benoit Pioulards music for as long as I can remember. 

Benoit Pioulard - Shouting Distance

It has been such a long time now since I have actually posted on here. I am determined not to let it slip! I have added more work to my overflowing plate and have opened an Etsy store. For so long now I have had so many clothes, shoes and trinkets just lying around not being used or worn at all. Now they get to go to a good home (somewhere, hopefully!). My little friend Peta is jumping on board and adding some of her own hand made treats, I actually cannot wait to see what she comes up with! I have also been doing workshops here and there, the latest being a watercolour workshop at the Brisbane Institute of Art. I absolutely loved it, and not only did I get to learn more about watercolour and add some more art to my portfolio, we also go to spend a couple of hours on sunday morning doing life drawing, which I have never tried before! more photos to come soon. There is so much happening, I can't wait till I am on holidays and can catch up with everything here : ) Photos to come. 

Yashica 

Finally, for the first time in such a long time, I got to take some photos this afternoon. JC found a quiet skate park out in the suburbs, so we both won today.

I have not looked at, let alone tried to take any photos lately. The passion I once had for photography has somehow, and for some unknown reason, dissipated. Looking at Phillip Bartz photos this morning made something stir. I wanted to take my camera out. I wanted to photograph something.

Artist- Sam Messenger

I found these tonight and I think they are incredible and so complex. We are currently looking at black and white sketching in class (no where as complex or amazing as these) so I have been doing a little research.

Illustrator- Patti Jordan 

Stumbled across these amazing illustrations by Patti Jordan using ink and graphite. I can't decide which one I love best, all!.

Classes are officially underway and I have kissed goodbye any chances of having a social life for a while. I am very sure that my liver and bank balance will thank me.

So dreamy, I love Valentina Vallones style of photography very very much. I want to use this sort of thing in some of my future designs.

Melancholia 

I have not been hit this hard by a film for a very long time. 

Kristen Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg blew me away. I absolutely loved the parallel between the planet "Melancholia" and depression and anxiety. I feel that each character in the film had a form of depression, and when the reality that their world was coming to an end brought out the ugly side of the sadness that each one had been repressing. 

I loved the character "Claire" as I feel her anxiety at the world ending and her desperation to take control of the situation in any way is very close to how I feel I would react in such a situation. 

This is a film I am going to be thinking about and talking about for a very very long time. Such a good job, incredible. Blown away.

Tyrone Lebon

"Tyrone Lebon is a photographer and filmmaker based in London, UK. He started taking photos and making films in his teens; at 18 years old he shot his first film, which was screened on MTV, and at 19 had his first work published in i-D magazine, London. Since completing his MA in Social Anthropology in 2005, he has worked on various film and photography projects. They have been shown by a variety of international broadcasters, galleries, and publications. He has also created imagery and film for a selection of relevant clients."
